Beautyin The Pot after two outlets at OneKM Mall and The Centrepoint, has opened its newest and largest branch. Strangely, it is just above its original outlet, at Level 3 of OneKM Mall. Hot pot—a bubbling broth in which you cook various meats vegetables, noodles, dumplings etc—is an important fixture of Chinese cuisine. Gathering family, friends and loved ones around the steaming hot pot is one of my favourite forms of communal eating. I was pleased to have the chance, therefore, to sample Beauty in the Pot on Yangon’s Sayar San Road. Beauty in the Pot has all the staples of a good quality Chinese hot pot chain which is to be expected as its from Singapore’s Paradise Group. The restaurant was buzzing but not raucous in Mandarin we would say renao’ with pleasant chatter and scented steam emanating from each I sat down, I ticked off my mental hot pot check list. Large hot pot in the middle, which can be split into two small hot pots. I am not a fan of the personal hot pot which seem in vogue in Yangon. Good quality crockery. Large chopsticks for dipping and plucking, a spoon for soup, a slotted spoon for tricky extractions and an elongated sieve for noodles. Beauty in the Pot charmed me almost immediately by supplying paper bibs and little plastic bags for your phone—both necessary precautions for an enthusiastic hotpotter like restaurant won my heart with its dipping station. For the uninitiated, part of the hot pot experience is to create your own dipping sauce which you can coat items in between being cooked in the hot pot and entering your mouth. This station was well-stocked with soy, vinegar, oils, coriander, chilli, sha cha, sesame and well-maintained read Clean.I opted for two soups. The slightly bizarrely-named collagen-rich pot was rich from pork cartilage and featured delicious pieces of silky tofu. The mala’ spicy broth was packed with Sichuan peppercorn, chili, red dates, wolfberries, ginseng, dang gui, dang shen. You can choose the spiciness on a scale from one to three diligence to you, dear reader, I ordered as broad a selection as possible of items to dunk in my pot. The vegetables were packed with flavor, the meat I had Australian beef and pork was fresh and needed only minimal cooking, the restaurant’s signature meat paste was lightly flavored with white pepper and once cooked it took on just the right amount of the broth’s dumplings were very good as well, a light tang from the garlic shoots with the pork and a delightfully slippery skin. The hand-pulled la mian noodles were also exceptional. The meatballs were all fresh and very tasty—in particular the squid. The taro should also be mentioned as a must-order therefore, was pretty much perfect until, dramatic pause, I found out there was no dessert option. Not even a fruit plate. Though we were handed a refreshing crushed ice lime would not stop me from coming back, when I get that hot pot yearning, however. It remains my favorite hot pot experience so far. The food was good across the board. The service was diligent offering demonstrations and advice on cooking times, at times to the point of being a little can expect to pay a little more than you might anticipate for the privilege, however, and should allocate around 20,000-30,000 kyats per head. If you think it’s a little pricey and are flexible with when you hot pot, take advantage of their lunch menu and late-night deal 20 percent off between 10 pm and 1 am.
Some of the restaurants at Jewel Changi Airport are opened till late, and Beauty in the Pot promises hotpot opens till 3AM in the morning. It is located at a corner unit at basement 2. Look out for Lim Chee Guan now you know, then Subway. Unlike some of the other branches are decorated in pink, this outlet has a primary white, brass and Tiffany blue colour scheme. The interior is done up art deco style, like a “jewel box” which represents luxury, glamour, and romanticism. For the Jewel Changi Airport outlet, there is a dedicated luggage area and a children’s playground though closed due to COVID-19. Other to some of the hotpot restaurants which are noisier and energetic, I think this is a place with high enough ceilings and space for group outings and conversations. There are six different nourishing soup bases with rich flavours and nutritional benefits, including Signature Beauty Collagen Broth, Vitamin C Tomato Sweet Corn Broth, Signature Spicy Nourishing Soup Pork Bone Soup, Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth, and Cooling Coconut Broth. Diners can choose between a single pot, twin pot or a quart pot. The price of a single pot starts from $14; a quart pot starts from $5 each. Whether you are picking a twin or quart, one of the soups should contain the Beauty Collagen Broth, since it IS the signature and tastiest of the lot. Just a note that the broth used to be shark collagen, but it has been replaced with a concoction of pork trotter, chicken feet, compoy, chicken and pork bones. I would personally prefer the older version, but this makes a worthy replacement with its semi-thick, creamy and nourishing flavours. To be honest, the first few mouthfuls are always the best, till it gets diluted upon refills. The Spicy Nourishing Soup is NOT a “mala” broth, so it doesn’t provide that numbing feeling on the tongue. Still moderately spicy, not as greasy, and makes a good complement to the collagen. We all thought the Mushroom Soup needed some added ingredients like meats to make it richer and more flavourful, as it started out slightly diluted. The Cooling Coconut Broth left us divided. Some liked its unique, refreshing touch; while others thought a mildly sweet hotpot soup was weird. I thought it paired well with chicken meat and the Fish Tofu. Beauty in The Pot offers a variety of fresh ingredients ranging from meat and seafood to vegetables and noodles. All the meatballs, meat paste and dumplings are handmade. Some of the must-try items include the melt-in-your-mouth Signature Homemade Fish Tofu $ Ebiko Prawn Paste $ Assorted Balls Platter $ and Fried Beancurd Skin $ The Fried Beancurd Skin is supposed to be dipped into the broth for 3 seconds – nothing more, nothing less. If you are skeptical about the short period of time, try it anyway, no harm. Recently, they have introduced the Rich Lobster Broth topped with Crispy Rice $20 for twin pot, $38 for single pot You get the seafood umami flavours, but it doesn’t go overly rich so that you can still savour the natural taste of the ingredients, packed with oceanic sweetness of lobster flesh. The bonus is a bowl of Poached and Crispy Rice is given, and the server would help you top it up with the lobster broth, almost like having Lobster Pao Fan. If you are thinking what to add to your Lobster Broth hotpot, recommended items include the Homemade Fish Tofu – made with yellowtail fish, soya bean and egg white, Fried Beancurd Skin, Soft Bone Pork Meatballs, and Assorted Dumpling Platter with Pork Roll, Pork and Chives, Prawn Roll and Prawn Dumpling. I found that the Ebiko Prawn Paste shaped out of 100% prawn meat went very well with the Lobster Broth, to savour the bouncy prawny crunch in luscious shrimp stock.
